Recently, a friend from New York shared this site with me and I fell instantly in love. HandpaintedType is a project that is dedicated to preserving the typographic practice of street painters around India. Seeing their use of colours, technique and old school craftsmanship that feels missing in today’s signs is a humbling feeling and gives me a warm happy feeling inside. Unfortunately, many of these men are going out of business or switching over to cheaper quicker methods and this project is dedicated to collecting these pieces so the artwork is never lost and can be passed down to future generations.
